2010 State Wrestling Tournament Results

Villegas Closes-out Stellar Career
Delco Centre, Austin, Texas: On his third, and final, trip to the state tournament, Juan Carlos “Charlie” Villegas lost his first two matches and was thus, out of the tournament. In Match 1 Charlie lost a 7-2 decision to Jacob Ahquin of Houston Langham Creek (Region 3). In Match 2 Charlie lost an 8-3 decision to Brandon Mathews of El Paso Eastwood (Region 1). Charlie closes out his senior season at 40W – 4L (90.9W %), and his high school wrestling career with Four District Championships, Four-time Regional Qualifier, Three-time State Qualifier. We wish Charlie well on his future endeavors.
Pina Competes At State
Delco Centre, Austin, Texas: Clarisa Pina made her presence known in Round One as she defeated Sera Lyamah of Arlington Bowie (Region 2) in a 5-4 decision. In Round Two Clarisa lost an 8-0 major decision to Valerie Rosales of El Paso Americas (Region 1). In Round Three Clarisa was pinned at the 1:50 mark of the first period by Cassandra Steely of Dallas Skyline (Region 2). Clarisa closes-out a great Junior season and we look forward to her Senior year!Thanks for the Memories! Senior’s 2010
Liz Villarreal: Future Plans: Attend Lindenwood University – St. Joseph, Missouri Major: Government – Pre-Law Wrestling: 3 Years Achievements: District Champion 2008, 2009, 2010, Regional Qualifier 2008, 2009, 2010. Most Memorable Match: Rio Grande City Tournament 2010: “I pulled my opponent back by the leg as she was trying to get out of bounds, and brought her back towards the center of the mat. It has become my favorite move.”
Justin Ramirez: Future Plans: Attend University of Texas – San Antonio Major: Criminal Justice Wrestling: 3 Years Achievements: District Champion 2009, 2010, Regional Qualifier 2009, 2010, and 6th Place at RegionalTournament. Most Memorable Match: La Joya Invitational Tournament 2010: After losing to Jaime Flores at the Lobo Invitational and the Sharyland Invitational, Justin worked with his coaches to develop an approach that was executed as designed and produced the desired result. Justin won a 10-6 Decision, handing Flores his first loss this year.

Ernie Garcia: Future Plans: Attend Texas A & M International University - Laredo Major: Accounting Wrestling: 4 Years Achievements: District Champion 2008, 3rd 2009, 2nd 2010, Regional Qualifier 2008, 2009, 2010 Most Memorable Match:
Andres Medina: Future Plans: Attend South Texas College Major: Welding Wrestling: 2 Years Achievements: 2nd Place District 2010, Regional Qualifier 2010 Most Memorable Match: District 32 Championship Match against Rogelio Zavala of Weslaco East. Zavala won the first. meeting and Andres won the next two during the 2009-2010 season. At the district tournament, Zavala won the fourth and final meeting.
